The project builds on its first supportive housing community, SECU Lakeside Reserve. SECU The Sparrow allows the organization to expand its ability to help the community.
Funding included a competitive award from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency through the Supportive Housing American Rescue Plan program. The city of Wilmington donated about one acre for the project and provided capital and predevelopment support. The SECU Foundation also contributed a $2 million challenge grant.
“Supportive housing is a proven strategy for ending chronic homelessness,” Knight said. “We are incredibly grateful to the N.C. Housing Finance Agency, the City of Wilmington, the SECU Foundation, and the many partners and donors who helped make SECU The Sparrow possible.”
The opening is part of Home for Good, Good Shepherd Center’s broader campaign to expand housing and shelter solutions in the region.
