Good Shepherd Center began in 1983 as a modest Soup Kitchen, when a group of downtown residents came together to serve their hungry neighbors a simple lunch of soup and a sandwich. Today, that effort has grown into one of the most consistent and accessible sources of food for people in need in our region.
In addition to weekday lunch service, Good Shepherd provides breakfast and dinner every day for adults and children staying in the Night Shelter. Because many of our guests face both hunger and serious health challenges, we work to make each meal as nutritious as possible, with balanced offerings prepared through donated food and community support.
Open to Anyone in Need
Good Shepherd Center’s Soup Kitchen is open to anyone in need of a meal. There are no barriers to access. We serve neighbors experiencing homelessness, seniors and people with disabilities living on fixed incomes, working individuals and families stretched by rising costs, and parents doing everything they can to keep food on the table.
For many, the Soup Kitchen helps fill a gap that is bigger than most people realize. Some parents skip meals themselves so their children can eat. A substantial meal here can make the difference between getting through the day and going without.
Each year, the Soup Kitchen serves more than 120,000 hot meals to hungry neighbors in our community.
