We Appreciate Your Donations!
Your donations are key to the success of our rehousing efforts. Last year, with your support, we rehoused a record 277 men, women, and families with children, including seniors and Veterans. No longer living in an emergency shelter, on the streets, a car, or the woods, but in safe and affordable housing of their own. For many of our chronically homeless guests, a home of their own feels out of reach. Your gifts make that dream a possibility.
Ways to Donate
- Donate by check or bank draft to avoid credit card fees. Checks can be mailed to Good Shepherd at 811 Martin Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
- Donate online – it is simple and secure, and PayPal takes a nominal fee for the convenience.
- Call our office to donate over the phone by credit card at 910-763-4424 x101.
- Join our monthly giving program, Good Hearted Circle, to provide regular support at any level that fits your budget! Call 910-763-4424 x101 to join. You can update or cancel your giving at any time.
- Donations of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

3. Donate crypto and get a tax receipt.
Donations of appreciated cryptocurrency don’t trigger capital gains taxes, and may be tax-deductible for the full value.
In-Kind Donations
Thank you for thinking of Good Shepherd Center. In-kind donations help meet daily needs and support guests as they move into housing.

Clark James Foundation
The Clark James Foundation (CJF) exists solely to support the operating budget of Good Shepherd Center and serves as the agency’s endowment fund.
William Clark James served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was born in Wilmington in 1917. He spent his entire career in the insurance business until his death in Wilmington in 2007.
Clark made a legacy gift to Good Shepherd in excess of $4 million dollars and those funds were received in 2010. The Clark James Foundation was created with a separate Board and with the guidance of that Board and Wells Fargo Advisors, the fund has continued to grow with a value to date of over $5 million. Two members of the Good Shepherd Board are appointed to the Clark James Foundation Board on a rotating basis.
Good Shepherd receives an annual allocation of 5% of the average previous three years, and this amount is included as a revenue line item in the agency budget.
In order to keep the fund growing, and perpetuate income for generations to come, Good Shepherd continues to fund the Foundation through legacy gifts. The Shepherd Society was created to recognize like-minded individuals who, like Clark, believe in investing in the future of Good Shepherd. Through estate planning such as bequests, trusts, gift annuities, and life insurance, members of the Shepherd Society include Good Shepherd in their estate plans. As those funds are received, they are transferred to the Clark James Foundation to be invested. The principal remains intact and the interest is used to support programs for our hungry and homeless neighbors.

Home for Good: A Campaign for Permanent Solutions
Good Shepherd Center’s Capital Campaign Home for Good will:
- Create more than 60 apartments for chronically homeless individuals with disabilities, including seniors and Veterans;
- Expand our homeless services campus, including a new family shelter with expanded capacity, dedicated play space and rehousing supports;
- Build on 40+ years of service to the Cape Fear community, using Best Practice, data driven interventions to help homeless individuals and families transition to permanent housing, stability, and an improved quality of life
