When Robbie moved to North Carolina, he came carrying the promise of a job opportunity and the belief that a fresh start was within reach.
But life can change quickly. When the job opportunity fell through, and a devastating health diagnosis followed, the future Robbie had imagined began to unravel. Without the stability he had counted on, he found himself at Good Shepherd Center.
Still, Robbie kept showing up.
Even in the middle of uncertainty, he held onto the part of himself that felt most alive: his music. Many in our community may know Robbie from downtown, where he picked up gigs playing guitar and shared his remarkable talent with anyone lucky enough to hear him. In a season when so much felt uncertain, his music became both an anchor and an offering.
At Good Shepherd, Robbie found more than a safe place to land. He found people willing to walk beside him as he navigated illness, disappointment, and the long road back to stability. He found support that looked like encouragement on hard days, practical help with next steps, and the steady reminder that his story was not over.
And then, one day, the bell rang.
At Good Shepherd, the bell marks one of the most joyful sounds on our campus: someone has found housing. For Robbie, that ring was not just about moving into a new place. It was about perseverance. It was about being seen. It was about the possibility of rest after a season of survival.
Today, Robbie has a home of his own and a new chapter ahead.
Every bell ring is a story worth celebrating. Robbie’s reminds us that building home is not only about walls and keys. It is about helping someone hold onto who they are while they find their footing again.
“My music helped me keep going. Good Shepherd helped me find my way home.”
