The Wilmington region is growing, and the numbers are striking. Recent reporting based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates shows that the Wilmington area gained approximately 34 new residents per day, while other reporting notes that the Wilmington metro area, which includes New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties, grew by more than 12,000 people between July 2024 and July 2025, ranking among the fastest-growing metro areas in the nation.  

Growth is not inherently a bad thing. It can bring new energy, new businesses, new investment, and new opportunities. But growth also asks something of a community. It asks whether the people who already live here, work here, raise families here, age here, and fall on hard times here will still be able to remain here.
