Who do people picture when they think of ‘the homeless’? They may not picture a mother getting her children ready each morning while worrying about where they will sleep that night. They may not picture someone working two jobs, completing clinical hours, and still holding tightly to the dream
of building something better for her family.
But that was La’Quetta.
A hard-working mother of three, La’Quetta was doing everything she could to move her family forward. She was balancing two jobs while completing the clinical internship required for her Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
Her days were long, her responsibilities were heavy, and her focus remained clear: create a stable future for her children.
Then housing instability disrupted everything.
Despite her work ethic and determination, La’Quetta found herself forced into homelessness. Like too many working families, she was doing all the right things and still facing barriers too big to overcome alone.
At Good Shepherd Center, La’Quetta found the support her family needed to catch their breath and take the next step. She was met not as a problem to be solved, but as a mother with goals, strength, and a future worth investing in.
Today, La’Quetta and her children are settling into their new apartment and beginning an exciting new chapter.
For her family, home means more than a roof overhead. It means children knowing where they will sleep each night. It means space to rest, study, cook dinner, and dream beyond the next emergency.
With the stability of housing, La’Quetta plans to re-enroll in school and continue her journey toward becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Housing did not create La’Quetta’s determination. She already had that.
Housing gave that determination room to grow.
