Wilmington's Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard Present:

The Bienniel Empty Bowls Event

Join in on the international project to fight hunger!

Friday March 19, 2010

Wilmington's Good Shepherd Center and  Mother Hubbard's Cupboard will join in on the international project to fight hunger by hosting the 5th Empty Bowls event.

Wilmington, NC…On March 19, 2010 local community members will come together and share a meal of delicious soup and bread at the Empty Bowls event.  Area potters and restaurants will give of their time and resources to help fight hunger in our community.

The goal of Empty Bowls is simple: Community members will purchase tickets for a meal of delicious soup and bread. Local restaurants will be making the soup and local potters will be creating ceramic bowls. Each ticket holder will select a bowl and will take it home as a reminder of the meal's intent to fight hunger.

Proceeds from the event will go towards helping both Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. Good Shepherd Center works to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless in the Wilmington community, while Mother Hubbard's Cupboard focuses on providing non-perishable emergency food to the hungry in the area

The Empty Bowls event will be taking place at First Baptist Church Activity Center, located at 1939 Independence Boulevard (behind Independence Mall), from 11am-2pm on Friday March 19th. Tickets can be purchased before the event at multiple locations: Blue Moon Gallery, Good Shepherd Center, Grace United Methodist Church, Jesters Java, Just Because Chocolates, Katy's Great Eats, Melting Pot, New Elements Gallery, Portland Grille, Temptations Hanover Center, and Temptations Porter's Neck. A minimum donation of $15 will be accepted. All proceeds will go to Good Shepherd Center and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.

About Good Shepherd Center

The mission of Good Shepherd Center is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition of those in crisis to independence in the community. Established in 1983 as a modest Soup Kitchen, Good Shepherd has grown to become the largest provider of homeless services in the Tri-County area. Current programs include the Soup Kitchen, Second Helpings food salvage and distribution program, Sgt. Eugene Ashley Transitional Living Center for homeless veterans, Fourth Quarter Transitional Living Center for homeless men and women, a Night Shelter, and a Day Shelter providing the homeless with access to showers, clothing, jobs, and an on-site health clinic. This interfaith organization is heavily volunteer-driven, relying on the donated time and talent of well over 500 individuals from diverse backgrounds.
